The vibrancy of its lines and the sleek acidic structure are softened by a very slight residual sugar in the finish. Its subtle mineral-like core framed in hints of citrus, melon and herbs gets the job done when you need a serviceable wine. In 1798, Kentucky was the site of America's first commercial vineyard planted by the winemaker for the Marquis de Lafeyette. By the late 1800's, Kentucky was the third largest grape and wine producer in the United States. Then came Prohibition which hit the Kentucky wine industry hard just like it did in many other states. Many of the vineyards then in Kentucky were either uprooted and converted to cash crops or they were abandoned. Today of course the story is much different.
